poems

All-American Sestina- I really enjoyed this poem. I think why I really liked it was because everything that we mentioned in the poem was relatable words in the U.S.A. I also thought it was cool how almost everything involved numbers to describe the items.

Here, Bullet- I liked this poem. I thought it was hit close home with the author because he was in the army and had gone to war. It makes you think about what a bullet really does. He probably witnessed all the scenarios described in the poem and that makes it so personal.

First Love: A Quiz- This was my favorite poem out of all of them. It reminded me of the story we read at the beginning of the year with John and Mary. It was funny because I could relate with some of the choices as I pictured my boyfriend ( my first love) in my head. I thought maybe the choices would lead to a conclusion about why you picked the choice or something. I would like to see how many people picked the same path.

She Walks in Beauty

By: Lord Byron

I think Lord Byron is talking about a woman that he loves and how beautiful she is.

speaker- Lord Byron

auditor- the reader

circumstance- I couldn’t really point out a clear circumstance

One example of an simile in the poem would be on line 1

– She walks in beauty, like the night

I think it gives you a clear picture in your  mind of the way she walks and how she might walk graceful.

research paper.

I am doing my research paper on the Jon Bennet Ramsey murder case. I already know a little bit about the subject but I want to find out more. What I already know is that she was a little girl that lived in Boulder, Colorado and was murdered on Christmas eve. Her parents found her in the basement strangled and dead. A question that I have is were the parents ever suspects?

Reaction to other’s reactions.

When I was reading people’s reactions it seemed like everyone agreed with one thing. That it made them mad or it was intresting that the attorney was trying to make it seem like it was the woman’s fault because she was wearing certain kinds of clothing. I really agreed with that because it was wrong and it made me really mad when I was reading the play.

Play!

I liked the play. The lawyer/ defense attorney really really bugged me. I think he was trying to blame everything on the way the woman was dressed and how she carried herself.  I think alot of woman that do get raped blame themselves and I dont think this story helped any. I felt really bad for the woman when they were hounding her with tons of questions!!!

Antigone

1. Antigone- ” I was born to join in love, not hate- that is my nature.”

I love love this quote! I think it is important that she sticks up for the right thing and what she thinks is right and not want other people want her to do. She kills them with kindness.

2. Ismene- “True my king, the sense we were born with cannot last forever.. commit cruelty on a person long enough and the mind begins to go.”

I think this quote is talking about the innocene we all once had. I think she is trying to say that people get caught up in this person that they would be ashamed of knowing and do not realize it is the way they are acting.

3. Antigone- ” He is my brother and – deny it as you will- your brother too. No one will ever convict me for a traitor. I think this quote is important because she is being loyal to her brother. She is also trying to knock some sense into her sister!!

book reviews for Teach Me

I agreed with the review at this website.  The review  mentioned everything that went on in the book and how Mr. Mann just happend to wait till Nine was eighteen to take her virginity. That made me mad too like he was covering his butt if he did get in trouble.

I also agree with this book review as well. The review says that some critics said all this book was about was molestation, but I think it is much more than that. I also liked how it mention Nine only wanted to find out why this man that she loved so much would just leave her. I don’t think Nine would have acted as crazy as she did if Mr. Mann would have just flat-out told her. I think his name contradicts his actions as well.

reaction to Teach Me

I really really liked the book. I don’t think I put it down unless I had too, which wasnt a good thing because none of my other homework got done those two days. I like how the book was written kinda in a flashback form. The book also kept me wondering the whole time. I sometimes had to go back and reread things to keep everything straight. Overall this was one of the best books that I have read.
